Almenara is a territory full of history as its once walled historical centre, its castle still watching over its privileged, almost inaccessible location and other areas of a unique beauty, such as the ponds or the quiet Casablanca beach on 3 km of coast still remind us today.

Although the current name of the town is of Arab origin (“the lighthouse”), there is evidence of Iberian and also Roman civilisation.

The town was fortified in the 16th century. The walls have been recently renovated, although only two of the six towers still remain.

The urban centre is presided over by Santos Juanes church, from the 18th century. The castle is situated above the town. The fortress has an irregular plan, three premises and two towers, one of them known as Agüelet. Inside there are several archaeological sites: Corona, Abric de les Cinc, Almenara castle, Punta del Cid and Muntanyeta dels Estanys.

At the Museum of the Pious Genoveva Torres, visitors can see the Creueta, a Gothic processional cross presiding over Plaza de la Constitución.
